In the United States, it’s commonly assumed that our children aren’t doing that great academically because we simply don’t give our schools enough money.
But according to the National Center for Education Statistics, the U.S. spends $20,000 per student annually.
Think you could give a child a better education than most public schools for that amount of money? In some states, you actually have a chance to try with Education Savings Accounts (ESA) scholarships! School choice expert Corey DeAngelis gives a brief overview of ESAs below:
[W]ith school choice, 1) if you like your public school, you can keep your public school. You can continue to send your children to that assigned school and all that money will continue to go there. But if not, for whatever reason, in states like Arizona now, you can take a portion of that money to a school that best meets your needs and aligns with your values.
Just how much would this ESA be?
According to DeAngelis, most ESAs are between $7,000 and $8,000 per student annually, and the beauty of these scholarships is that they follow a student to the school of his choice, whether private, charter, microschool, or home.
It’s really the best of all worlds: the public school saves money by not having to teach a student, and the parents get to take a portion of that saved money and use it at another school that works better for their child. What’s not to like about ESAs?
