There’s no denying that the contentions in our society have filtered down into our schools. We’ve seen everything from angry parents at school board meetings to teachers talking on social media about what they teach behind parents’ backs.
How to solve all these contentions and get back to the basics of the 3Rs is what most of us would love to know. According to author Corey DeAngelis, school choice is the grassroots answer.
“The best solution to this problem of parents disagreeing about how they want to raise their kids is from the bottom up,” DeAngelis says.
For those who disagree and suggest that such change needs to happen from the top by banning critical race theory (CRT) and other ideologies that parents are opposing, DeAngelis notes that such policies or legislation are “unenforceable”:
We have undercover video coming out from Accuracy in Media, from tons of red states where the public school administrators are admitting on camera that yes, they’ve banned CRT at the state level, but they’re still going to do it anyway. ‘Don’t worry, we’ll just call it something else, we’ll call it social-emotional learning, we’ll call it student mental health.’ It’s a never-ending game of whac-a-mole trying to fix the system from the top down.
Instead, DeAngelis says that school choice—seen particularly through programs such as Education Savings Accounts (ESAs), where the money follows the student to the school of his or her choice—“is the only true form of accountability from the bottom up. And it’s the only way to fix the one-size-fits-all nature of the government school system.”
Parents shouldn’t have to explain why they do or don’t like a certain policy in the public school system. Instead, they should simply have the option to vote with their feet, moving their children “to a private school that doesn’t have all this garbage, or even another public school that’s doing a better job.”
Parents are the ones who brought their children into the world. Why shouldn’t they have a say in the schools that get their taxpayer dollars to educate their children?
Corey DeAngelis is coming to Minnesota September 19 (Saint Cloud) and 20 (Twin Cities)! You won’t want to miss these enlightening evenings as Corey talks about the parent revolution sweeping our nation and the empowering path forward for American families through school choice!
